Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition Officially Coming Later This Year

Rockstar Games revealed today Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, a new compilation set to feature new and improved versions of three of the franchise’s most acclaimed titles, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. According to the company, the release of the new versions of the titles will be part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III, which was first released on October 22, 2001.

The reveal of the new versions was made after many details surrounding its existence started to surface a few months ago, which even featured the leaking of the title’s logos and their achievements. Files regarding the new versions were also found a few days ago, hinting at their upcoming announcement.

Rockstar Games announced the trilogy through a post on their official site where they revealed that the new versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will feature ”across-the-board upgrades”, such as graphical improvements and gameplay enhancements, all while maintaining the core of the experience of all three titles. Also, according to them, we can expect more details regarding the new versions to be released in the coming weeks. The developer also revealed that in preparations for the reveal of the new versions, they will be removing the currently available versions of all the titles from all available platforms next week.

In their post, Rockstar Games also revealed that, as part of the anniversary celebration, Grand Theft Auto Online will be receiving celebratory events as well as new cosmetics and gear. Not only that but this month’s in-game events will also feature, according to the developer, some special surprises for all of its players.

Taking into account how great was the expectation for the announcement of the new versions, many fans hope that if the endeavor goes well, it will at least increase the chances that some of Rockstar’s other beloved titles, such as Grand Theft Auto IV and the acclaimed Red Dead Redemption may receive the same treatment in the future.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will be released later this year for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and for PC, on Rockstar Games’ official launcher. A version of the compilation for iOS and Android will be released in the first semester of 2022.
