GTA 5 actor comments on Grand Theft Auto 6 casting and returning characters
We know we’re not going to see Grand Theft Auto 6 until at least 2021 – at least that’s what Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two, said in an earnings report that came out earlier this year.
We also know that Jason Schreier suggested Grand Theft Auto 6 is in early development at Rockstar Games – so we can probably look forward to it arriving on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 – but beyond that very little is known about the project.
It stands to reason the game is already in development, although a lot of gamers debating just how far into production the game could be.
Following on from GTA 5 was never going to be an easy task – it’s one of the most successful pieces of media ever created, after all – and Rockstar is going to have its work cut out if it wants to create characters as memorable as Trevor, Franklin and Michael.
And if you were hoping that any of the characters might make a return in Rockstar’s next game, we’ve got some bad news for you.
In a recent interview with Looper, the actor that played Trevor – Steven Ogg – revealed that he didn’t think the character he gave his likeness to would be returning in any future titles.
“I didn’t follow the video games. I don’t know what they do, so I’m still not in that world,” he tells the site when asked if he knows anything about the sequel.
“I have no idea. I don’t think they bring characters back ever; they all seem to be one-offs.”
Ogg, who’s career includes appearances in The Walking Dead, The Tick, and Netflix’s new Snowpiercer series, did have some good advice for people hunting down clues on upcoming titles, though.
“Actors are the last to know anything. You want to know anything about any production — well, maybe not a motion-capture — go talk to hair and makeup or the special effects team because they have to budget the entire season,” he advises.
“I spoke at the Vancouver Acting School or Film School and [they asked, ‘What’s your advice for young actors?’ I said, ‘The first day, be friends with hair and makeup because that’s how you’re going to know where your character’s going and what you’re doing. Because they know everything.'”
The only character that we think may be returning, or at least appearing in the game in some manner, is Sammy Bottino – a gangster that has cropped up a few times in the series to date.
Whether or not the theory we’ve reported on extensively at the link turns out to be true, though, is unclear.
We’ll update you as Rockstar reveals more information about GTA 6.
