World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is the fastest-selling PC game ever

Activision Blizzard have announced that not only was the launch of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands a sucess- it’s actually the fastest-selling PC game of all time.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands officially launched on November 23, 2020, so the company clearly needed time to gather the official numbers, but the end result is definitely something to gloat about.

And according to the official figures, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands sold 3.7 million units on the first day alone, which was enough to snag it the title of the fastest-selling PC game ever.

Activision Blizzard are delighted with the result, quite rightfully so, although we suspect the latter part of the company sighed just a bit more audible breath of relief.

Activision’s boasting about the highest engagement numbers in the franchise’s history didn’t do much to reassure fans, who were more focused on Blizzard’s capability to deliver than on recurrent players.

Moreover, it didn’t help that World of Warcraft: Shadowlands was ultimately delayed, which ended up producing more sceptics than the flat Earth theory. A large majority of which seem to have had a change of heart once they got back in the proverbial saddle.

Perhaps the only unfortunate thing in this matter is that Blizzard were practically fighting themselves. The previous record-holder was Diablo 3, whose day one sales in 2012 reached 3.5 million copies.

And the best part is that the real World of Warcraft: Shadowlands content hasn’t even started flowing, as the first two weeks were about players familiarising themselves with the expansion.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is getting its first Raid and Season 1 today, and we reckon that numbers will only grow from here.
