Pope Francis expresses closeness to migrants and refugees in Libya

Pope Francis expressed on Sunday in the Vatican City his closeness to the thousands of migrants, refugees and others who are in need of protection in Libya.

I never forget you, I hear your cries and I pray for you, His Holiness said at the end of Sunday’s Angelus prayer before a crowd gathered in St. Peter’s Square.

In this regard, the Pope noted that many of those men, women and children are subjected to inhuman violence and reiterated a call to the international community to keep the promises to find common, concrete and long-term solutions to regulate migratory flows in Libya and throughout the Mediterranean.

After referring to the existence of real concentration camps in Libya, the Pope urged to put an end to the return of migrants to countries that are insecure and give priority to the saving of human lives at sea, with regular protocols of rescue and disembarking.
