The largest sculpture in the world
The 182-meter-long world’s largest statue planted in Ahmedabad, Gujarat province of India, has come to an end.
When the sculpture of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel from India’s heroic struggle for independence is completed, it will be about twice as long as the Statue of Liberty in New York.
2,500 people are working for the opening of the statue, which has been under construction for five years, on 31 October. Hundreds of workers were brought to China for the construction of the sculpture, which will cost 430 million dolars.
Currently the world’s largest sculpture, the 128-meter-long Buddha Spring Temple in China. There is a Buddhist temple under the statue.
Iron Man of India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attract a large number of tourists to the bronze-sculpture statue he has built to symbolize the unity of India.
Patel, known as the Iron Man of India, was the deputy prime minister after independence in 1947. They made great efforts to be part of the Indian state, reconciling the states fighting each other.
Many Hindu nationalists say that Patel remains in the shadow of the Nehru dynasty, which dominates Indian politics, and finds no worthy value.
Modi said during the 2013 election campaign that “Every Indian Patel regrets not being the first prime minister.”
