Russian students have thought up how to receive concrete from a waste
The material obtained in a new way, by its properties, is in no way inferior to analogues available in the market.
The team of senior pupils together with scientists from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys (NRTU “MISiA”) have developed a new technology for the manufacture of concrete, which includes the disposal of industrial waste. As a raw material, blast furnace slag and a chemical activator are used. The cost of such “green” concrete is three times less than that of market analogues.
The authors of the innovative project became winners of the direction “New Materials”. The contest was held within the framework of the “Big Challenges” program, which is organized every year by the educational center “Sirius”. The Institute actively cooperates with Sirius, attracting future engineers to solve urgent problems.
In 2018, 400 schoolchildren participated in the Great Challenges. The jury selected them from 41,000 high school students at the All-Russian competition of scientific and technological projects. Specifically, 28 talented students from 17 regions of the Russian Federation worked in the direction of “New Materials”.
