Glenn Hoddle claims that Antonio Conte is desperate to get to business on the training ground with the Tottenham players. Spurs cruised to a 2-0 win over Brentford on Thursday night to move up to seventh place in the Premier League.

It appears that there is still plenty of hard work for the Tottenham players despite picking up a solid win over Brentford.

An own goal from Sergi Canos and a Son Heung-min wrapped up an important three points for Spurs.

Tottenham were humbled 2-1 by Slovenian side Mura in the Europa Conference League last week, showing there are still plenty of creases for Conte to iron out.

And speaking ahead of the Brentford game, Hoddle made it clear that regardless of immediate results, Conte was keen to get down and dirty in training with his players.

“It’s been a mixed bag. We’ve got to give him some time,” he said on Amazon Prime.

“I think he really wants to get into these players on the training ground.

“It’s been a little bit stop-start and I think with the Burnley game postponed I got a feeling that they were put through some paces on Monday and Tuesday for sure, working them harder than normally.

“So, that would’ve worked in his favour in many ways but I think he needs time on the training ground.

“He wants a higher tempo, throw bodies forward a little bit more and he wants them to be fitter so that’s where they need time. Not necessarily tactically.”

Conte echoed Hoddle’s sentiment with his comments at full-time, insisting that as soon as tonight was over all the focus would be on Sunday’s game against Norwich.

“We can enjoy the win until midnight, but one second after midnight we need to start thinking about the difficult game on Sunday,” the Spurs manager said.

“We need to get three points because that is the only way to stay close to the high part of the table.”

The win came after the Italian had read the riot act to his players in Slovenia seven days earlier after a poor Europa Conference League performance.
