Arsenal to offload defenders after completing £25m Gabriel Magalhaes transfer
Arsenal will try to move out some of their seven central defenders in a bid to balance the books, after completing the signing of Gabriel Magalhaes.
The Brazilian joined the Gunners on a five-year contract from Lille yesterday as part of a deal that could eventually be worth around £26million.
Gabriel is still in quarantine after arriving from France last week, but his signing means Rob Holding and Sokratis Papastathopoulos could leave.
Holding is attracting interest from Premier League clubs, with Newcastle United the favourites to sign him on loan. Sokratis has one year on his contract and could also depart, amid interest from Italy, but his £90,000-a-week wages may prove a stumbling block. The same is true of Sead Kolasinac, who has two years left on his deal, which is worth over £100,000-a-week.
Calum Chambers and Shkodran Mustafi have also been linked with moves away, but the fact they are both injured means they could stay.
Full-back Hector Bellerin, meanwhile, is said to be attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain. Bellerin has been linked with a £30m move to France and his sale would significantly boost Arsenal’s finances.
