Arsenal’s worst fears realised as PSG chief makes Houssem Aouar transfer admission

Paris Saint-Germain are in the fray for Houssem Aouar and sporting director Leonardo has revealed the Frenchman is the club’s dream signing. The news will not go down well in north London, where the Arsenal board are continuing to work on a deal to satisfy the demands of Lyon.

At the start of the summer, Thomas Partey emerged as Arsenal’s top midfield target.

That soon changed though when Atletico Madrid insisted that his £45million release clause would need to be paid in full.

Their stance would also suggest that the Gunners do not have the funds to pay £45m for Aouar, a figure that has been quoted by Lyon.

However, in the past few days French reports have suggested that Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas would be prepared to accept around £36m for his star man.

But that could now change with PSG, Juventus and Real Madrid now said to be in the frame.

Last night, Leonardo made it clear that the club would love to bring Aouar to the Parc des Princes, despite the difficulty of the deal.

He said: “Right now it is a bit complicated, he is interesting a lot of clubs. He is a dream for us.”

Aouar has already agreed to join Arsenal but that could change should more offers arrive.

The 22-year-old would prefer to join Juventus or Barcelona but the two European giants are unlikely to make their move this summer.

Juventus did contact Lyon earlier this week and want to be updated should negotiations with Arsenal intensify.

The Old Lady admire Aouar following his two performances that saw Lyon knock them out of last season’s Champions League.

As it stands, PSG are unlikely to win the race for Aouar given that they’re only shopping exclusively in the loan market.

Yet if they can convince Lyon to sanction a loan, they may be able to afford his full asking price a year down the line.

Arsenal have only bid £32million up front so far but are expected to improve their offer in the coming days.

First though, they may need to raise some additional funds with player sales.

Bayer Leverkusen are in talks for Sead Kolasinac and he could be heading for a return to Germany.

Meanwhile, Lucas Torreira landed in Madrid last night as he closes in on a move to Atletico Madrid.
