Brentford forward Said Benrahma ‘flattered’ by Chelsea and Arsenal transfer links
Brentford forward Said Benrahma says he is “flattered” by speculation linking him with a number of leading clubs but insists he is fully focused on firing Brentford into the Premier League.
The Bees host Barnsley on Wednesday and will clinch promotion to the top flight if they better West Brom’s result against QPR, but Benrahma looks set to for top flight football regardless.
Chelsea and Arsenal are reportedly in the race for the 24-year-old, while West Ham, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Leeds are monitoring his situation.
He said: “I was really flattered [to see myself linked with those clubs], but, at the same time, I am so focused about getting out of the Championship with Brentford that I do not pay too much attention. But it gives me confidence.”
A superb run of victories post-lockdown put promotion in Brentford’s hands before Saturday’s slip-up at Stoke.
The Bees needed a draw to jump into second but fell to a 1-0 defeat at the Bet365 Stadium, meaning West Brom are now favourites to clinch the second automatic spot and join Leeds in the top flight.
If the Baggies do get the job done on Wednesday evening, Thomas Frank’s men will face a Championship play-off semi-final against one of Nottingham Forest, Swansea or Cardiff.
Benrahma said: “I don’t look at it as my destiny, but it has always been a target of mine to play in the Premier League and I really wish to play in the Premier League with Brentford.
“It would be magnificent for Brentford to be in the Premier League because it would be the first time and we have really been working hard on it.
