Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey is in line for a return at the Amex
Graham Potter has given a positive update on defender Tariq Lamptey’s return from injury.
The 20-year-old full back has not kicked a ball for Albion in the Premier League since December in their goalless draw with Fulham due to a hamstring injury which then required surgery.
Albion have missed Lamptey’s pace, energy and direct approach at right wing back while he has been on the sidelines.
Lamptey had been getting more involved in training prior to the international break having taken part in warm-ups and a little bit more light work on top of that.
However, speaking at the annual fans forum that was broadcast live on BBC Sussex last night Potter when asked about Lamptey’s condition Potter admitted that the England U21 international could return to action later this month.
Albion’s head coach said: “Tariq played in an internal game yesterday (Tuesday) just for 20 minutes in an 11vs11, which was really positive.
“We are hopeful that we can work towards but are reluctant to put timescales on it that we can work towards Swansea in the Carabao Cup for him to be involved in there.
“So he is getting close to a return.”
