Celtic boss Neil Lennon has been ‘exceptional’ in managerial role, says Hamilton Accies boss Rice

Hamilton boss Brian Rice praised Neil Lennon’s managerial achievements at Celtic and admitted it’s a difficult job.

Lennon has been under intense pressure from supporters after falling behind rivals Rangers in the title race and the disastrous trip to Dubai which resulted in positive Covid tests.

The Northern Irishman has won countless trophies as manager of Celtic and Rice believes he’s done a fantastic job.

He said: “Neil knows Celtic much better than I know Celtic. What he’s done there is remarkable from the time he’s been there as a player and a coach.

“The demands of the Old Firm is to win every game and every trophy that’s available so it’s a very, very demanding job.

“Neil has been exceptional in that role but it’s not going his way at the moment.”

Ahead of Hamilton’s trip to Celtic Park, Lennon’s side are in poor form having picked up just one win in their last five league fixtures since beating Hamilton in the corresponding fixture.

The current champions trail arch rivals by 23 points but Rice is under no illusions about how difficult a game his side face at Celtic Park.

He said: “Celtic had 13 players out two weeks ago but now they’ve got 13 back in. If I took 13 players out of my squad then we wouldn’t have a team – I wouldn’t have enough bodies to play the game.

“Anything can happen as we proved at Ibrox last season. We have to go to Celtic Park with confidence and spirit and a game plan. We’ve got to believe because if you don’t you shouldn’t be involved in football.”

“How many times has Hamilton gone to big venues like Celtic Park and Ibrox over the years and got a result?

“Sometimes it’s just a one-off or it happens every now and then. We’re going to Parkhead to play the strongest Celtic team possible. We’re Hamilton Accies and nobody gives us a chance.

“If Celtic were top of the league, people would be saying that Hamilton has absolutely no chance. But because Celtic aren’t top of the league, it’s a good time to face Celtic? Rubbish.
