Chelsea told to scupper £40m Arsenal transfer in favour of Aston Villa
Arsenal are reportedly the favourites to land Tammy Abraham from Chelsea in a shock transfer.
Abraham has also been linked with a move to Aston Villa and their Premier League rivals Leicester City and West Ham United.
The England international scored 26 times for Villa during a loan spell at the club in 2018-19 when Dean Smith ‘s side secured promotion back to the Premier League.
Abraham still has admirers at Villa but a potential summer move for the player depends on whether head coach Dean Smith is happy going into the season with Wesley Moraes, Keinan Davis and Ollie Watkins as his starting strikers.
Watkins was in inspired form in his debut season with Villa in 2020-21, scoring 14 Premier League goals but Davis is unproven in the top flight and Wesley on the comeback trail from a serious knee injury.
Chelsea want to sign Erling Braut Haaland in a mega-money deal this summer and Abraham, who was snubbed by boss Thomas Tuchel for the FA Cup and Champions League finals, is one of the players up for sale ro raise money for a move.
If Haaland is not attainable this summer, Tuchel could move for former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.
The Sun report that Abraham could be set to sign for Arsenal on loan with Mikel Arteta’s side under an obligation to buy if he makes a certain number of appearances.
Chelsea want £40 million for Abraham and some supporters are unsure about strengthening a direct rival and another London club.
Other football fans have weighed in and reckon that Villa is a better bet for Abrhaam to have success after Arsenal’s well-documented struggles.
One Chelsea supporter said on social media: “If we let him go to West Ham or Villa and he does well, the most he will do is help them into Europe but at Arsenal there is more of a chance of him helping a rival. So why let him go there?”
“Tammy, don’t do this! Go to Villa instead,” another added.
A third fan said: “Why would we give Arsenal Abraham on loan or sell him? I would keep him and I think he can and would do well for the first team. Don’t sell him to a rival and make them better!”
“Surely Tammy would not go from Chelsea to Arsenal to sit on the bench again for the most time,” another added.
“He should sign for a big club like Villa,” a fifth fan said while another added: “Tammy in front of Emiliano Buendia and Jack Grealish will bang in some goals.”
