Everton ‘likely to demand’ huge signing if manager arrives to replace Ancelotti
Everton could make a move for Gianluigi Donnarumma if they were to hire Andrea Pirlo as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor this summer.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who warn that Everton are ‘likely to demand’ the goalkeeper if Pirlo were to arrive.
Donnarumma is currently on the hunt for a new club, with AC Milan having given up in their attempts to keep him as a result of his wage demands.
Finding a new club has not been as easy as expected for him and agent Mino Raiola, with few of the big sides in Europe in need of a new number one.
It’s widely felt that there will need to be movement around the market for Donnarumma to end up at a major club, with Juventus at the top of his list of suitors.
He could, at least theoretically at this point, end up somewhere further down the pyramid then, and Calciomercato say Everton is one such option.
Their belief is that the Toffees are a side to ‘watch out for’, and they are ‘likely to demand’ the goalkeeper’s services were Pirlo to be hired as Ancelotti’s replacements.
It’s made clear that would be something of a failure for Donnarumma, though, given he would not be getting the wage demands or European football he wants at Goodison Park.
And the reality is a deal is highly unlikely anyway. That’s largely because it’s doubtful Pirlo will be arriving on Merseyside while Everton don’t need to spend big on a goalkeeper after Jordan Pickford’s resurgence in the second half of this season.
Still, if you happen to see this rumour doing the rounds in the coming days, you know where it came from.
