Everton man’s claim about Liverpool game sums things up perfectly
Everton are flying in the Premier League but an upcoming test against Liverpool will offer a realistic barometer of how good they really are.
Carlo Ancelotti’s charges sit top of the table after winning all four of their game so far.
The Toffees are also averaging three goals per game right now and next Saturday’s Merseyside derby at home to Liverpool is a fascinating test.
That’s because Jurgen Klopp’s side will be going into the game on the back of a shock 7-2 trouncing by Aston Villa last weekend.
And Ancelotti, speaking to Everton’s official website, has admitted that he and his troops are ‘confident’ of beating their neighbours.
He said: “We are confident. It doesn’t matter what happened last week, they are still a fantastic team with a fantastic manager. It will be a difficult game but we have confidence.”
This pretty much sums things up right now.
Given that Liverpool have won the Premier League and Champions League over the past two seasons, and Everton having Sam Allardyce as manager just a couple of years ago, it’s been a while since anybody on the blue half of the divide could honestly say they were confident of winning a derby.
But when Ancelotti says it, he has every reason to be and few would be surprised if the Italian’s side do make it five wins from five come next weekend.
