Everton suspend first-team player following arrest of Premier League footballer over alleged child sex offences
Everton have confirmed that they have suspended a player pending a police investigation after a Premier League footballer was arrested on suspicion of child sex offences.
The player, whose identity has not been revealed due to legal reasons, was arrested by Greater Manchester Police on Friday and has been released on police bail.
Everton said in a statement: “Everton can confirm it has suspended a First-Team player pending a police investigation.
“The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.
A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers arrested a 31-year-old man on Friday 16 July 2021 on suspicion of child sex offences.
“He is on police bail pending further enquiries.”
