Graeme Murty is among the betting favourites to be named the next manager of Reading.

The former Rangers boss is available with the bookies at 10/1 for a return to Berkshire after spending 11 years at the Madejski Stadium as a player.

Murty remains the Ibrox side’s development manager after Steven Gerrard replaced him in the hotseat – but is a favourite with the oddsmakers for a switch to the English Championship strugglers.

The amiable former Scotland international failed to halt Celtic securing a double Treble success before the Liverpool icon took the reins.

Murty, who was still in charge when Gerrard’s arrival was confirmed, was named Dave King’s “man of the year” at the club’s AGM earlier this month.

The South African-based businessman paid a touching tribute to the 44-year-old after he stepped up on two separate occasions to lead the first team after Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha were sacked.

King said: “I want to thank a man who to my mind is a true Rangers hero.

“For the second time, and at great personal anguish much of the time, Graeme Murty put the club ahead of himself by taking on the extremely difficult role of interim manager for a prolonged period and under challenging circumstances.”

Warburton, who has been out of work since being binned by Nottingham Forest in 2017, is also available at 12/1.

Steve Bruce is the favourite at 5/1, with former Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic also available at 10/1.
