Gonzalo Higuain to arrive in London to complete Chelsea medical ahead of loan transfer
Gonzalo Higuain could become a Chelsea player Monday.
The Blues are on the brink of landing the Argentina ace on loan from Juventus until the end of the season.
Boss Maurizio Sarri is set for a reunion with the striker is worked with at former club Napoli after Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich sanctioned a six-month short-term deal.
Should ex-Real Madrid ace Higuain impress, there will be an option for the Premier League club to extend his stay in west London for a further 12 months.
The 31-year-old has spent the first half of the season on loan at AC Milan.
But he is expected to arrive in London over the next 48 hours to undergo a medical and rubber-stamp his move.
Higuain will be looking to repeat the form he had under Sarri at Napoli in which he celebrated 36 goals two seasons ago.
Chelsea’s transfer chief Marina Granovskaia is expected to close the deal for Higuain with Sarri confident of bolstering his strike force.
“Marina knows my opinion on how to improve the team,” said Sarri.
“I am confident because I know Marina is working very hard.”
Blues boss Sarri is hopeful Higuain will not be the only player who comes to Stamford Bridge before Deadline Day on January 31.
Chelsea are trying to find a replacement for Cesc Fabregas, who left earlier this month to Monaco, with Zenit St Petersburg star Leandro Paredes his top target.
Cagliari ace Nicolo Barella is in demand too although the midfielder is expected to remain in Serie A until the end of the season.
