Hakim Ziyech says Chelsea ‘did not create enough’ against Spurs and rates title chances

Hakim Ziyech does not believe Chelsea created enough chances to win Sunday’s game against Tottenham though feels his side are very much in the Premier League title race.

The Blues dominated possession against Spurs at Stamford Bridge though carved out few chances of note, with substitute Olivier Giroud nearly finding a late breakthrough after a mistake from Joe Rodon.

While Frank Lampard felt his side had edged the contest, Ziyech made no excuses for their failure to claim all three points and says Chelsea’s attack simply did not quite do enough.

‘It felt like whoever was going to make the mistake would lose the game,’ said the Moroccan.

‘It was not really a game to play football. It was a tactical game.

‘For their attackers and ours there was no space to play.

‘We had much more of the ball than they had, but it was difficult to find space and create chances.

‘Our feelings were mixed. A little disappointed because we were at home and we want to win the game but on the other side you have to look to yourself and say you didn’t create enough.’

The result sees Chelsea remain in third place, two points adrift of league leaders Spurs, and Ziyech is confident the club can mount a series title challenge this season.

‘Of course we can make a challenge,’ he continued.

‘You always have to believe in it. It starts from believing in it and then working every day harder. At the need of the day we will see what it brings.

‘But you have to believe it is possible and that is what we are doing. We believe it.’
