Jack Grealish responds to Ben White transfer amid £100m Man City offer
Aston Villa star Jack Grealish has congratulated England team-mate Ben White after he finally completed his drawn-out move to Arsenal.
The Gunners announced the signing of White on Friday after a summer-long chase that saw Brighton reject at least two bids from the London club before Arsenal paid up the full £50million asking price.
But after completing his medical this week, Mikel Arteta finally has his man, with White signing a long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium and being handed the number four shirt.
The 23-year-old defender is Arsenal’s third signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga.
White took to social media after his big-money move was confirmed to state his happiness at joining Arteta’s side.
Posting a photo of himself holding up his new shirt alongside Arteta and Arsenal technical director Edu, White wrote: “My new home. Can’t wait to get started at Arsenal.”
Grealish was White’s team-mate at this summer’s Euro 2020 tournament, though the latter failed to make an appearance.
But the bond between the Three Lions stars clearly remains strong, with Grealish applauding the defender following his move.
Replying to White’s post, the Villa captain made it clear that the deal was something that White “fully deserved”.
“Congrats brother. Fully deserved,” Grealish wrote in response to White’s post, alongside clapping and football emojis.
Grealish could also earn a big-money move this summer, with Manchester City submitting a stunning £100m bid to Villa for the attacker.
While the 25-year-old has that to focus on, White has stated his relief that his move to the Gunners has finally been confirmed.
“I don’t think I needed too much convincing to be fair. Obviously Arsenal speaks for itself and I spoke to the gaffer a number of times during the summer,” he said.
“Obviously I’ve known for quite a while and it’s taken longer than I thought it would, but I’m buzzing to be here.”
