Jadon Sancho ‘still wants Man Utd transfer’ but won’t force move due to Dortmund agreement
Jadon Sancho reportedly still wants to join Manchester United this summer but he is not prepared to force the deal over the line. It’s a saga that is has threatened to dominate the summer transfer window with Ed Woodward and co locked in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund.
Much was made of the supposed August 10 deadline that was imposed by the German club.
They were said to have told United that if they did not complete a deal before that date, it would simply not happen.
So far they have been true to their word and Sancho appears set to stay at Borussia Dortmund.
He recently spoke of the senior role he has taken up in the dressing room as he looks to help fellow Englishman Jude Bellingham settle in Germany.
United have already agreed personal terms with Sancho over a five-year deal in anticipation for the breakthrough with Dortmund.
Dortmund are adamant that their £108million valuation must be met and they will not change their stance on that.
United are yet to make an official offer for the player as of yet and are adamant they will not bow down to Dortmund’s sky-high valuation following the coronavirus crisis.
However, according to Bild’s Christian Falk, there is still hope for United because Sancho still wants to move to Old Trafford.
Falk told The Beautiful Game Podcast: “It’s important for United fans to know that he still wants to go to Manchester United.
“It’s just a question of money, if they pay €120million I think it’s a crazy amount of money during this time.
“I know Ed Woodward gets plenty of pressure from the fans, perhaps he has to pay it.
“I think that many people didn’t know that also Sancho signed a contract secretly which is one year more.
“For Dortmund there is no need to sell him now, they get the price next year also.
“They are happy because they want to be German champions, Bayern Munich have won it eight times in a row.
“They’ll try everything to win the German championship with Sancho and it’s easy with Sancho then without.
“If United buy him next year, it’s okay for Dortmund. Time is running for Ed [Woodward].”
Sancho may have to hand in a transfer request to get his move this summer but that appears unlikely to happen given that he signed a new one-year extension to commit him to Dortmund until 2021.
“Dortmund knows there is quite a promise, if a club bring the price and pay the €120million he can leave,” Falk added.
“He’s already agreed to United so there are not any other clubs in for him.
“Of course it’s always a risk to wait one year more because you know what is happening with Manchester City.
“I know also that Bayern Munich wanted to get Sancho when he was going to Dortmund, Sancho said no.”
