Jose Mourinho and Luciano Spalletti sent off in Roma’s draw with Napoli

Head coaches Jose Mourinho and Luciano Spalletti were both sent off during Roma’s draw with Napoli on Sunday afternoon.

Mourinho was visibly upset after a foul was not given on Nicolo Zaniolo in the 80th minute. The Portuguese breached his technical area and gesticulated wildly, then appeared to kick an object on the ground.

Play resumed and referee Davide Massa showed Mourinho a second yellow card, followed by a red. The Roma coach responded by nodding his head and giving a thumbs up to Massa.

Mourinho had been booked earlier in the match.

Napoli’s Spalletti, meanwhile, was shown a red card by Massa after the full-time whistle after he appeared to sarcastically applaud the referee.

Mourinho’s dismissal against Napoli comes just three days after Roma’s stunning 6-1 Europa Conference League defeat at the hands of Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager was very outspoken in the wake of the defeat, saying: “

He followed it up by leaving Borja Mayoral, Gonzalo Villar, Bryan Reynolds, Marash Kumbulla and Amadou Diawara out of his squad for the Napoli match — all of whom started on Thursday.

The Derby del Sud finished goalless at the Stadio Olimpico.
