Jose Mourinho hands Man City Premier League title boost by insisting Liverpool FC will drop points
Jose Mourinho believes Liverpool’s five-point lead over Manchester City isn’t huge as the Reds will drop points.
So far this season, Jurgen Klopp’s side have been flawless winning all six of their Premier League games, scoring 14 goals in the process.
While City suffered a shock defeat at newly-promoted Norwich last weekend, but responded in the best possible way when they hit Watford for eight at the Etihad.
And Mourinho, speaking as part of Sky’s Super Sunday line-up, believes Pep Guardiola’s side are more than capable of putting a run together like Liverpool and closing the gap.
“A five-point lead over Manchester City, I don’t think it is a huge gap because Liverpool are obviously going to lose a match, like City lost against Norwich, they are going to drop a couple of points here and there,” the Portuguese said.
“City are capable of having a run like Liverpool are having now, so I think the five-point gap is not significant.
“But we were speaking before the game, it’s better to go at top of the league, to look back and see your biggest rival. I just feel that if everything that we are saying goes into a puzzle, Graeme was talking about the fatigue, Jamie was speaking about the three attacking players playing very centralised and they don’t defend too much, then Roy is saying you get the points and go home.
“I think in the last 10 to 15 minutes in this game, Salah has to make a better effort and has to help a little bit more Alexander-Arnold, then he can play a little bit more on the inside, so when you arrive at the moment that they are going to win ugly, they have to defend better and they were a little bit lucky.”
