Jules Kounde has exciting transfer belief as Chelsea told what they must pay for defender

Chelsea transfer target Jules Kounde believes he can become the best defender in the world at a top club, according to La Liga expert Graham Hunter. Chelsea are interested in signing Sevilla star Kounde before the end of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea are also in talks to sign Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku could cost the Blues north of £100million after a superb two seasons for the Belgian in Serie A.

But Chelsea are not set to end their transfer business there.

Kounde remains a top target despite his hefty price tag.

Hunter says the 22-year-old is driven to be regarded as the best in his position.

And the defender reckons joining a club who consistently compete for major honours is his best way of doing that.

Hunter said on the Transfer Window podcast: “What’s happened at Sevilla is [Kounde’s] had a really good tuition from [Julen] Lopetegui.

“But irrespective of the fact he will earn more money at Chelsea than he does at Sevilla – unquestionably he will – Kounde is driven by wanting to be regarded and being able to prove he’s the best in his position in the world.

“That is, again, without any question, a matter of fact that he believes that’s what his job is.

“He doesn’t believe he’s there now but he believes that the way to do that is to be in a team that will be outright competing every year to either be champion or win the Champions League.”

Hunter says Chelsea have attempted to include the likes of Kenedy in a deal to sign Kounde.

Kurt Zouma has also been linked with a move to the Spanish side.

However, Sevilla are not interested and would prefer Chelsea to pay his full release clause.

Kounde’s release clause sits at around £60m (€80m).

Hunter added: “I think Chelsea are trying to reduce the price, they’ve tried to put in Kenedy who’s been playing in various teams in La Liga and in my view is not good enough for Sevilla.

“So I think the likelihood is that if they want their man they’re going to have to go to the full release clause.

“Certainly Sevilla will do a deal where they claim it’s the full release clause, however the terms come together.”
