Kevin De Bruyne will be in Man City squad for Brighton fixture
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Kevin De Bruyne is fit enough to travel for Tuesday’s penultimate Premier League match against Brighton.
City will be looking to bring their title-winning season to a close in style in their final matches, as preparations for the Champions League final continue to ramp up.
With the date in Porto less than two weeks away, the Blues have been boosted by De Bruyne’s return to fitness.
Guardiola revealed in his pre-match press conference that the Belgian was ‘feeling good’ after being back in training the last two days and went on to confirm that he will be in the squad for Tuesday’s trip down south.
“Yep, he is going to travel,” the manager said.
Guardiola was also asked if it’s important for De Bruyne to get some minutes in ahead of the final, but the boss was quick to point out that the 29-year-old isn’t the club’s only important player.
“Kev is important like everyone is,” he added. “The fact when we are able to stick together and be able to push each other will be possible to win it.
“Kevin is important, everyone knows it but everyone is at the same level, we will see his level and see if he is fit to play.”
With the title already sewn up for City, the two remaining league matches – against Brighton and Everton – offer Guardiola the chance to rotate his side and give some fringe players the chance to earn their way into his plans for the final against Chelsea.
However, action on the pitch isn’t the only way players are trying to get a place in the team for the prestigious match.
“They listen a little bit more yeah,” Guardiola said when asked if his players are laughing at his jokes more since they want to play in Porto.
“It’s serious. They are not stupid. They want to play and that is why they are so nice to me. At the moment I make a selection they will be normally who they are, so grumpy and upset with me.”
