Lionel Messi has expressed his desire to leave Barcelona during the current transfer window. Messi has spent his entire professional career with the La Liga giants but appears to have grown disillusioned in recent times.

He has reportedly sent a fax to Barca chiefs informing them that he wants to go.

How they respond remains to be seen as the club plans to to rebuild following the appointment of Ronald Koeman as their new manager.

Messi was part of the Barcelona side that was thrashed 8-2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final.

And upon his appointment, Koeman said he was looking forward to working with the Argentine.

“It is a pleasure to have a player like Messi in the team. His qualities will help the team to develop.” he told Barca website.

News of Messi’s potential availability will no doubt put Europe’s top clubs on alert.

However, only a select few would be able to afford the star.

According to Football Leaks, Messi earns a staggering €60,395,769 in basic yearly wages.

That works out as approximately £988,000 per week, not including bonuses.

Football Leaks also say the star receives £9.1m per year in image rights and that bonus payments can reach as much as £13m per year.

His eye-watering Barcelona salary is boosted further by a wide range of sponsorships and endorsement deals.

He has lucrative partnerships with the likes of Adidas, Pepsi and Konami.

The star has also been the face of global companies such as Gillette, Turkish Airlines and Tata Motors.

Overall, Messi has an estimated wealth of £306m ($400m), according to Wealthy Gorilla.
