Liverpool ‘are not working’ to seal Kylian Mbappe transfer but new update expected soon
Liverpool aren’t currently working to try and organise a deal for Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe to sign next summer, and the wonderkid’s future will likely be decided in the next few weeks. That’s according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who reported on Tuesday that PSG chiefs are going to try and get Mbappe to sign a new contract at the Parc des Princes.
Mbappe has reportedly told PSG he wants to leave next summer.
The French wonderkid has been tentatively linked with a move away from the club in 2021, when he’ll have just one year remaining on his contract.
Real Madrid are believed to be determined to put together a package to sign him, and apparently suspended all incoming transfer activity in order to buy him.
However, Mbappe is reportedly leaning towards Liverpool, and has spoken of his admiration for Jurgen Klopp and the Premier League champions recently.
Rumours claim Liverpool will do their best to try and convince the World Cup winner to head to Anfield instead of the Bernabeu, as they are concerned about losing either Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah before too long.
But Romano explained to Oddschecker that Liverpool aren’t currently working on a deal to sign Mbappe, and are yet to make contact with PSG or his representatives.
He also claimed that PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi will do everything he can to convince the 21-year-old to sign a new contract at the Parc des Princes.
“To be honest, right now it’s not really happening,” Romano said.
“We’re talking about teams like Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid looking at Mbappe.
“Right now, there has been no contact from Liverpool to get Mbappe next summer. We’ll have to wait some weeks to understand the real situation.
“Liverpool are not working to get Mbappe next summer.
“If you talk to the PSG president about Mbappe, he’s ready to fight to keep Mbappe.
“He’ll make another bid to extend his contract, so it will be a war to get Mbappe next summer.
“It will depend on the player, as well. Mbappe right now is focusing on Paris Saint-Germain and winning with Paris Saint-Germain, not a move next summer.
“We need to wait some weeks in my opinion, then we’ll understand more also about what will happen with Paris Saint-Germain and his contract.
“They will try to keep him, 100 per-cent.”
