Liverpool are targeting Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy
Liverpool are said to be interested in signing Alex McCarthy, according to a report in the Daily Mirror.
The 29-year-old lost his number one status at Saints earlier this year when manager Ralph Hasenhuttl decided to hand the jersey to Angus Gunn.
And with Fraser Forster also amongst the ranks at St Mary’s, it’s likely one of them will have to leave this summer.
It’s suggested that Liverpool tried to sign McCarthy back in 2014 before he decided to join Queens Park Rangers.
Having dislodged Forster as Saints’ number one back in December 2017, the former Reading man went on to be named as the club’s Player of the Year.
McCarthy also received international recognition for his performances and made his debut for England last November in their 3-0 friendly win against the United States.
The goalkeeper joined Saints in 2016 and signed a new four-year deal last summer, which will keep him on the south coast until June 2022.
