Liverpool learn tempting fee as journalist claims firm approach for Bundesliga centre-half

Liverpool are ready to add to their signings of Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota with a move for Schalke defender Ozan Kabak.

The Reds, despite promising a frugal summer, have added to their midfield and forward options over the past few days. Thiago was the first top sign on the dotted line, joining on an initial £20m deal from Bayern Munich. His arrival has given Steven Gerrard ‘butterflies’…

Next through the door was Portuguese star Jota from Wolves. While he will ultimately cost £41m, his arrival won’t hit the Reds hard after some transfer magic from Michael Edwards.

Amazingly, Liverpool are not done there either. Next on their shopping list appears to be a new central defender. Dejan Lovren’s £10.9m exit to Zenit St Petersburg has left Jurgen Klopp with a lack of cover at the back.

Since then, they have been linked with a plethora of names.

Liverpool were reported to be tracking Sevilla’s Diego Carlos, who has an exit clause set at €75m.

Brighton defender Ben White, who shone during a loan spell at Leeds, has also been mentioned.

The Reds were also said to be tracking Omar Colley, who has a lowly exit clause in his Sampdoria deal.

However, Bundesliga journalist Chris Williams claims it is Schalke’s Kabak who is top of their wanted list.

The 20-year-old is wanted due to his exciting potential and impressive displays for the Bundesliga outfit. He’s seen as being at the right age to improve further but be content enough with a squad role at Anfield.

Publicly, Schalke are adamant not of their squad are for sale. But privately, Williams claims the Royal Blues would be willing to sell Kabak for the right price.

He tweeted: “Schalke sources confirm Liverpool have contacted them about Ozan Kabak.

“Official line – squad is settled & not for disruption now season is underway. Privately told an offer around €25m could force a rethink.”
