Liverpool set to sell six players in transfer exodus after sealing £41m Diogo Jota deal

Liverpool are set for a transfer exodus after securing the arrivals of Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota. The Athletic claims the Reds will try to offload five players on permanent deals, while Rhian Brewster’s future is still uncertain.

Liverpool made a real statement of intent on Friday as they wrapped up deals for Thiago and Jota.

The Reds had been having a relatively quiet transfer window up until this week, spending just £11.5million on left-back backup Kostas Tsimikas.

But this week, they’ve started to ramp up their efforts to improve the squad, and finalised a deal to sign Thiago on Thursday.

The Spanish midfielder flew to England to complete the move on Thursday evening and Liverpool announced the deal on Friday, with the Champions League winner signing a five-year deal.

The Premier League champions will pay £20m for Thiago, with just £5m to be paid this summer. Potential add-ons could take the fee to £25m.

They then followed that up by wrapping up the signing of Jota, meeting Wolves’ £41m valuation of the 23-year-old forward.

The fee could eventually rise to £45m, but they will again pay a minimal amount this summer.

They will pay Wolves less than 10 per-cent of the transfer fee initially, in a payment that will be offset by Ki-Jana Hoever’s move in the opposite direction.

With the club starting to spend big on new arrivals, they are set to offload players to balance the books.

The Athletic claims they will allow five players to leave the club this summer, and a sixth could follow due to uncertainty over Brewster’s future.

The young forward impressed on loan at Swansea City last season, and is being watched by Crystal Palace and Sheffield United.

The Reds are reportedly considering letting him leave either permanently or on loan.

Sheffield United are believed to have made the 20-year-old their top transfer target after missing out on Brentford striker Ollie Watkins to Aston Villa.

Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic are both valued at £20m by Liverpool and are available to any interested teams, while Mat Phillips, Loris Karius and Yasser Larouci are all on the unwanted list.

Wilson was a target for Leeds United, but they are no longer believed to be interested.

Liverpool are believed to be actively trying to offload Karius and Larouci, with neither facing any prospects of first-team football.
