Man Utd and Tottenham target ‘ignoring’ £60m summer transfer talk
Leicester City’s James Maddison has said he is not focusing on rumours linking him with a move away from the King Power Stadium this summer.
The 22-year-old had an impressive breakthrough Premier League season with the Foxes, making 31 Premier League appearances with a return of seven goals.
The likes of Manchester United and Tottenham have been linked with a £60m swoop for the midfielder this summer, but speaking to Sky Sports News Maddison said he was not interested in the rumours.
When asked if he was thinking about a move, he said: “No, you have just got to ignore that and take it all in your stride.
“As a 17 year-old boy I’d started five games for Coventry and saw on my phone that I was being linked with Tottenham and Liverpool .
“With transfer talk you need to take it as a compliment that people are even talking about you, it won’t distract me.”
Maddison is expected to be one of England U21’s key players as they aim to win the European Championships, taking place in Italy, this summer.
They face France in the group stages on Tuesday before taking on Romania on June 21 and Croatia on June 24.
Some were surprised Maddison was not called up to the senior squad by Gareth Southgate for the Nations League, but the player himself believes the U21 tournament will be beneficial for his development.
“This tournament is going to be better experience for me than what sitting on the bench at the Nations League would have been, I have been asked that a few times and I will never look at it and think should I be with the seniors,” he added.
“I am never going to be disappointed representing the U21s with my country, I am excited and proud that I’m here.”
