Man Utd issued transfer warning over ‘big deals’ amid Jadon Sancho negotiations saga
Manchester United are still going to be active in the transfer window, but are finding it difficult to finalise deals for their top targets. That’s the opinion of ESPN pundit Julien Laurens, who thinks they’re still the club with the most financial power in the window.
United have been linked with numerous top-level players this summer.
The Red Devils want to finalise a deal to sign Jadon Sancho, but Dortmund are still demanding £108million.
United are willing to meet those demands, but want to pay in installments, something Dortmund won’t consider yet.
They have reportedly agreed personal terms with him over a five-year £340,000-per-week contract, but are still facing the inevitability of missing out.
United were believed to be one of the few clubs not financially damaged by the coronavirus pandemic, and as a result were expected to spend big.
But while their rivals have been out spending money, with Chelsea forking out nearly £150m on transfer fees so far this window with another £90m buy to come, United are yet to spend anything.
And ESPN pundit Laurens explained that they still want to buy new players, but are finding it difficult to get deals over the line.
Speaking to ESPN FC, he declared that United will still splash the cash, but are taking their time in doing so.
“They are, they are [one of the clubs not affected by the pandemic],” Laurens said.
“They’re certainly the club with the most financial power this summer.
“But it’s not easy to sign Jadon Sancho, for example.
“At the moment, it isn’t easy to sign a really good centre-back either.
“They’ve got big deals to make, big contracts. They’ve got negotiations and stuff like that..
“They will sign people, there’s no need to worry.
“They’ve still got time, I think there’s a month and a half almost, so they’ll get there.
“It’s just not easy.”
