Man Utd prepare ‘first £45m bid’ for Jack Grealish with Villa star’s heart set on move
Manchester United are refusing to spend over the odds to prise Jack Grealish away from Aston Villa.
The playmaker is on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ’s summer wishlist as he looks to strengthen the side ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
Grealish grew up following the Red Devils and could leave Villa, even after they avoided relegation.
Villa’s No.10 helped them secure their Premier League status, scoring the crucial goal in their 1-1 draw at West Ham on the final day.
As a result, Villa are in a stronger position in terms of negotiating a fee for Grealish, as they can hold out for a larger sum.
United, though, have other areas they need to spend in such as on the wing with £100m-rated Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund.
Grealish is valued at a whopping £80m by Villa, and Ed Woodward is not prepared to match that figure.
Instead, The Metro say United are preparing an opening bid of almost half that figure.
A bid of £45m is being lined up, although add-ons would see it amount to around £55m.
It is believed Villa would immediately reject the offer if it is put to them, given it is nowhere near their valuation.
Grealish is pivotal to Dean Smith’s side and they would need to receive an offer they can’t refuse to let him go.
United, though, believe Grealish has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.
As a result, the Red Devils are willing to play hardball in terms of negotiations with their Premier League rivals.
Grealish would not necessarily be guaranteed of a place in Solskjaer’s first XI, given Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba play in similar roles.
Woodward will look to keep the fee down as a consequence, although the 24-year-old is rated very highly by United.
