Man Utd will pay €120m to sign Jadon Sancho if they qualify for the Champions League
The Jadon Sancho to Manchester United rumours just will not go away.
Borussia Dortmund’s English starlet is currently one of the most sought-after players on the planet after lighting up German football over the past two years.
In Sancho’s 44 games across all competitions in 2019/20, the 20-year-old scored 20 goals and assisted the same number.
Those numbers are up there with the very best in the world, so it’s no surprise to see him linked with a return to the Premier League and one of the biggest clubs on the planet.
But United’s pursuit of the forward will reportedly hinge on where they finish in the table this season.
As reported by German publication Bild, the Red Devils will only be able to cough up the €120m fee required to sign Sancho if they qualify for the Champions League.
At this moment in time, that scenario is still a distinct possibility for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, but they will likely need to win all three of their remaining league games.
United are currently fifth in the table behind Leicester on goal difference, with both sides meeting on the final day of the Premier League season.
The Red Devils travel to Crystal Palace on Thursday night, before hosting West Ham next Wednesday.
But it seems the United hierarchy are not going to solely rely on the potential financial rewards from Champions League qualification to fund their transfer plans.
The Telegraph report that Solskjaer has identified six players as ‘dispensable’ this summer to help raise funds for Sancho, as well as pursuits of a striker and a new centre-half.
United will listen to offers for Alexis Sanchez, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Jesse Lingard and Diogo Dalot.
There’s certainly cause to be cautiously optimistic about a deal for Sancho being completed, United fans.
