Manchester City have shirt number plan for Harry Kane which could upset Jack Grealish

Manchester City could save the No 10 shirt for Harry Kane rather than give it to Jack Grealish, according to reports. Both Kane and Grealish wear the No 10 at Tottenham and Aston Villa respectively. City are keen on signing both players before the end of the transfer window.

City are closing in on a deal to sign Grealish from Villa for a fee of £100million.

Sky Sports claim Grealish will undergo his medical today (Thursday) ahead of completing the move.

But City are not expected to finish their transfer business there.

Tottenham striker Kane has made it clear he wants to leave the club this summer and City are favourites to sign him.

Spurs are adamant they will not sell, especially to another Premier League club.

But City are set to test their resolve and Kane wants the move.

And the Telegraph claims City could hold off giving Grealish the No 10 and instead wait for Kane’s arrival.

The No 10 was vacated by Sergio Aguero after City’s all-time top goalscorer left the club at the end of his contract this summer.

Grealish has worn the No 10 at Villa since the start of the 2017/18 campaign, so would most likely want that at his new club.

However Kane, who would likely cost more than the fee City will pay for Grealish, could get the nod to get Aguero’s old jersey.

Kane is yet to return to Tottenham training following his post-Euro 2020 break.

The England captain is now in Florida and is looking almost certain to miss the opening day of the Premier League season, where Tottenham host City.

Kane would have to pass a Covid test and then isolate before he can return to training sessions.

The main reason behind Kane’s desire to leave is his wish to compete for and win major silverware.

Former Norway striker Jan Age Fjortoft believes a deal will end up happening this month.

“If you see his record you see why Manchester City wants him,” Fjortoft told

“If you see Manchester City’s record, you understand why Harry Kane wants to go to Manchester City.

“There’s not much time left for him to win titles and as we see Tottenham at the moment they won’t win titles this season either.

“He wants to go to Manchester City and believe me, this player will end up at Manchester City.”
