Manchester United drop hint over Alexis Sanchez future
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that Manchester United could accommodate the likes of Alexis Sanchez in their squad next season.
The former Barcelona forward has spent the past campaign on loan at Inter Milan, after a tough 18 months after signing for United from Arsenal in January 2018.
It was understood that Solskjaer viewed Sanchez as surplus to requirements and the 31-year-old – who was back in action for Inter in their 1-1 draw with Napoli yesterday (Saturday), as Italian football resumed behind closed doors – hasn’t thrived with Inter.
Yet Solskjaer told journalists earlier this season that “Alexis will come back and prove you all wrong” and now he’s discussed the roles that high-profile players such as the Chilean might have at United.
He’s hinted that it’s down to Sanchez to prove he’s got an Old Trafford future, though he could be sold.
“Of course there’s a place for good players and good people in this environment,” Solskjaer told the Daily Star.
“Let’s see where we get to after the season, because we do feel this squad is exciting. We do feel we’re on the way to something.
“It’s up to all the players when they’re here to do well, because there’s always talk of people coming in and out, and it’s about gelling this group together.
“Sometimes when you decorate your living room it might be a nice chair or nice sofa, but it maybe doesn’t go with the rest of it.
“For us to think about major honours, our focus is about finishing the league this season.”
It’s yet to be decided whether Sanchez will remain at Inter beyond the initial June 30th expiry date of his loan agreement. That could mean he returns to United to play a part over the summer, with the Premier League to continue well into July.
United’s first game back is against Tottenham next Friday night.
