Manchester United handed Dean Henderson injury boost ahead of first pre-season fixture
Manchester United have been handed a timely injury boost ahead of the new season after Dean Henderson returned to training on Tuesday.
The English shot-stopper was forced to withdraw from Gareth Southgate’s side at the European Championship this summer after suffering from a hip injury which had been hampering him for some time.
Henderson, 24, revealed he was left ‘unable to dive’ because of the hip problem, a result of ‘breaking through every brick wall’ he could to force his way into the United side.
After a few weeks off recovering the former Sheffield United loanee has returned to United training and was pictured taking part in their latest session on Tuesday.
Taking to social media Henderson posted a picture of himself in the club’s new training gear along with the caption: “Back at it!! Can’t wait for the new season!”.
United begin the new Premier League season a month on Wednesday when they host Leeds at Old Trafford, though they start their pre-season schedule when they travel to face Derby this weekend.
Summer signing Tom Heaton could be in line to feature at Pride Park on Sunday lunchtime, with Henderson expected to be eased back into action after his lay-off.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted the current dynamic between David de Gea and Henderson is unsustainable for a second season, though there are no signs of either leaving the club imminently in the current window.
Sources have reiterated Henderson has been told he is starting next season as the club’s number one in goal.
