Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes can equal unique Premier League scoring record vs Aston Villa

Bruno Fernandes will be eyeing another piece of glory when Manchester United line up to face Aston Villa in the Premier League this weekend.

United go into the match off the back of a disappointing defeat to West Ham in midweek and know a much better showing is required if they are to return to winning ways.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to make wholesale changes for the visit of Villa on Saturday lunchtime with star midfielder Fernandes one of those expected to start the match.

Fernandes, 27, has scored in both of United’s opening two league matches of the season so far and netted a first senior hat-trick in their opening day win over Leeds last month.

The Portuguese ace will be confident of another goal this weekend and if it comes from the penalty spot he will equal an incredibly niche Premier League record.

That is because Fernandes has scored in all three of his Premier League games against Aston Villa, with all three of those previous strikes coming from the penalty spot.

Only one player has scored more goals against an opponent with 100 per cent of them being penalties in the competition – former Watford striker Troy Deeney, who has scored four times from the spot against United.

It means Fernandes could become just the second player in Premier League history to achieve the feat if he scores from the spot this weekend.

United just need to win a penalty now… or maybe not.
