Mohamed Salah reveals split in the Liverpool squad over Man City showdown
Mohamed Salah admits there was a split in the Liverpool camp over how they wanted to win the Premier League title. Liverpool players watched the Chelsea-Manchester City clash last Thursday as the title was sealed.
They celebrated afterwards having sealed the club’s first league title in 30 years.
But Salah admits some of his team-mates wanted to go into last night’s game with City needing to win to be champions, while others wanted it decide last week.
“I think everyone was excited to watch the game [Chelsea vs Man City] together,” Salah told Sky Sports.
“Some players wanted to win against Man City and win the Premier League there and some players said ‘No, let’s win it now and celebrate together’.
“It was an unbelievable feeling, when Chelsea scored the second one, it was like ‘Wow’, it was a party.
“We tried to keep the distance but it doesn’t work sometimes but we did our best.”
Liverpool did seal the title after Chelsea beat City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.
Afterwards video footage emerged of the Liverpool players celebrating and Jurgen Klopp chocked up as he spoke to Sky Sports.
Jordan Henderson also teared up before they joined in the party with picture emerging of the players enjoying the celebrations through the night.
Klopp had insisted the players would be back and in top shape to face City last night, but some players struggled with City taking a 3-0 lead in the first half.
Kevin de Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden struck with the likes of Joe Gomez and Andy Robertson looking off their game.
An Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain own goal made it four in the second half in what was a miserable night for the champions.
