Moussa Dembele has already hinted at his transfer plan amid fresh Arsenal links
Arsenal are looking to offload Alexandre Lacazette this summer and replace him with Moussa Dembele, according to reports.
Lacazette has just over 12 months remaining on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium, with the Gunners preparing for a massive squad overhaul this summer.
football.london understands that the north London club could sign five players in different positions in the coming months as they look for a big improvement from the 2020/21 campaign.
As well as this, a number of players have been tipped to move on from Arsenal – with Lacazette being one of them.
According to the Telegraph, with the futures of the Frenchman and his Gunners team-mate Eddie Nketiah both uncertain, Mikel Arteta and Edu are now ‘weighing up’ a move for Lyon’s Dembele.
Arsenal have looked into the striker’s availability this summer, with the French forward still officially on loan at Atletico Madrid.
The newly-crowned La Liga champions have the option to buy the 24-year-old for €30million (£26m) but it is still uncertain whether they will take advantage of that clause.
If Atletico boss Diego Simeone’s comments from March are anything to go by, he may have wanted to have seen more for their return, hinting that Dembele needed to make his chance at the Wanda Metropolitano count.
“I always say that the number of minutes is not important. What matters is the quality of these minutes,” Simeone warned.
“I hope that Dembele can bring us what we hoped for when he arrived in the team.”
However, the Lyon man failed to do that, as he failed to find the back of the net in any of his seven appearances for Atleti in all competitions.
So if Atletico isn’t his next destination – could it be a return to parent club Lyon? Well, Dembele has already made his feelings clear in the past according to Lyon’s Sporting Director, Juninho, who revealed the striker had lost some motivation in France.
The French club’s chief said in January: “Moussa came to see me, he thinks that this is the moment to change teams, that he has lost a bit of motivation, this was not something we foresaw, I like him a lot.”
Arteta is reportedly keen on bringing a new centre-forward to the club with Lacazette’s contract reaching its final year at the end of June.
The French striker was the club’s top scorer in the 2020/21 season – netting 17 goals in all competitions, with the usually prolific Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having a somewhat underwhelming campaign, with 15 goals to his name.
