Newcastle United defender Jamie Sterry being eyed by two EFL clubs in January window
Newcastle United defender Jamie Sterry is wanted by a clutch of EFL Clubs this January.
The right-back – who was not handed a squad number this season and restricted to games in the Leasing.com Trophy – is out of contract at the end of the current campaign.
Sterry was overlooked for this weekend’s FA Cup third round game at Rochdale despite being eligible to play and Steve Bruce having a host of injuries.
Struggling Sky Bet Championship side Luton Town have been offered Sterry while League One play-off hopefuls Ipswich Town have also taken a look at the Geordie defender.
Sterry had started the season in earnest in China with the first team squad when he supplied Yoshinori Muto with an assist against West Ham United in the Premier League Asia Trophy in 1-0 win.
But he slipped out of contention at first team level and was relegated back to the Under-23s.
However, at 24, he is now looking for one of the most important moves of his career so far.
Sterry spent time at Crewe and Coventry earlier in his career but has now been left frustrated in Newcastle’s second string.
With his contract running out soon he needs to get back on to the first team stage to show what he can do.
