Pochettino pleased with emotional Neymar
Neymar Jr. scored twice to help Paris Saint-Germain past Girondins de Bordeaux on Saturday, unveiling a tribute to recently deceased singer Marilia Mendonca after his first strike.
Neymar was yet to score from open play in Ligue 1 Uber Eats this term, but two exquisitely-taken goals – in the 26th and 43rd minutes – changed that and set Paris on the way to a victory that left them 10 points clear RC Lens at the top of the table.
Neymar’s friend Marilia Mendonca died in a plane crash on the way to a concert in the Brazilian city of Caratinga on Friday, and he paid tribute to her immediately after opening the scoring with a T-shirt which read:
“You will always be eternal, Queen of Suffering [Mendonca’s nickname in Brazil].”

Both of Neymar’s goals were assisted by Kylian Mbappé, the Frenchman’s nine and 10th provisions for his Brazilian teammate in PSG colours, and Pochettino was understandably delighted with both.
“[Neymar] had a very good game,” he said. “He scored two goals. For two attacking players that’s always important. It’s the same with Kylian. It’s good that they both got to scored.”
