PSG veteran midfielder invites Messi to play alongside him
The Paris Saint Germain players and staff just don’t seem to relent when it comes to Lionel Messi. RMC Sport have now reported that Marco Verratti has joined the seemingly unending list of PSG players and staff to speculate about Messi’s move to France. The Barcelona superstar has been constantly linked to the Parisiens, with his contract set to expire on the 30th of June.
After comments from sporting director Leonardo, Neymar and Argentine compatriots Leandro Paredes and Angel Di Maria, now even Verratti is dreaming of having Lionel Messi as a teammate. While speaking to Canal +, the Italian spoke about how he would love to have the Barcelona superstar at the club.
“Of course, I’d love to play with Messi. I’d pass the ball to him and to Neymar while just watching from the back. That will be the best thing given to me by football.” , said the midfielder.
Lionel Messi has been the subject of constant links to Manchester City and PSG since he announced his desire to leave at the end of last season. As of January the Barça superstar is free to negotiate a deal with any club of his choosing. However, the Barcelona dressing room and coach Ronald Koeman in particular, have not taken kindly to PSG’s constant talk of Messi. Following Di Maria’s statements, the Blaugrana boss lashed out, labelling the Parisiens’ speculation about Messi as a ‘total lack of respect.’
PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino however, has been a lot more coy about the situation. While he did say that he would love to coach Messi, he downplayed the rumours:
“We have immense respect for an institution like Barça and towards all the people who work there and its players.”
Barça and PSG will face off in the Champions League Round of 16 in just over a week’s time. The Lionel Messi saga has now undoubtedly added a lot of spice to the matchup.
