Tottenham advised who to sell instead of Dele Alli after Gareth Bale transfer
Tottenham must not sell Dele Alli once Gareth Bale completes his return to the club, according to former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara. Bale is set to jet into London today to complete a season-long loan move to Tottenham. Reports claim Spurs are considering selling Alli and potentially offer him in the opposite direction to Real Madrid.
But O’Hara says it does not make sense to get rid of a No 10 player like Alli after bringing in a winger.
He instead thinks Bale’s arrival should spark the departure of Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela or January signing Steven Bergwijn.
“Why do we have to get rid of Dele Alli just to bring in Bale? I’m not sure about that,” O’Hara said on talkSPORT.
“I think there’s a problem with [Jose] Mourinho and Dele Alli, I’m not sure what it is.
“Why should you get rid of a player who, in my opinion, is the best player in that position at the football club at the moment, Dele Alli.
“We haven’t replaced [Christen] Eriksen and Dele Alli is that player as the No.10; Gareth Bale is probably going to play off the right.
“That means you’ve got Bergwijn, Moura and Lamela in that position.
“If you are going to get rid of one, to bring Bale in, get rid of one of them.”
O’Hara cannot see Alli moving to the Bernabeu and hopes Spurs work to get the best out of him again.
The pundit added: “I can’t see Dele Alli going to Real Madrid. I don’t think he’s done enough to warrant a big move like that.
“I think Spurs need to try and find a solution to get the best out of him. If they do bring in Gareth Bale, they are talking about a top player all of a sudden, Harry Kane is going to be happy with it.
“Dele Alli needs to find his form. You can’t say he’s not done great things because he’s scored over 50 Premier League goals.
“He can be a brilliant player for Spurs. He’s been very average lately but I still think there’s something there they need to find and motivate him to get the best out of him.”
