Tottenham Hotspur’s game against Fulham thrown into doubt ahead of facing Leeds United
Tottenham Hotspur’s game against Fulham tonight is reportedly in doubt due to a number of positive Covid-19 tests among the Cottagers.
Spurs face Leeds United on Saturday and could be handed an extra period of rest for the game after a number of people at Fulham tested positive for the virus.
The Athletic report that Fuham have received a number of positive cases that have put the game against Spurs in doubt.
Eighteen positive cases have been recorded across the Premier League after the latest round of testing, which is the highest number since the pandemic began.
The game would be the second Premier League fixture this week to be postponed due to positive Covid-19 cases, with Man City forced to call off their match against Everton on Monday after receiving positive tests.
City’s training ground has now been shut and it is unclear whether they will be able to face Chelsea at the weekend.
With the positive cases being from Fulham, it means Leeds’ game against Spurs is still set to take place.
Yet it will mean Jose Mourinho’s side will have had a six-day rest between their draw with Wolves on Sunday and facing Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
In contrast, Leeds had a 48-hour turnaround between beating Burnley on Sunday and travelling to West Brom this evening ahead of making the trip to Spurs at the weekend.
On Tuesday, the Premier League opted to return to twice-weekly Covid-19 testing due to the increased amount of cases among clubs.
Yet there are fears that with cases on the rise – and a large number of lower-league fixtures being postponed – the season may have to be suspended for a period of time.
