Tottenham star Harry Kane ready to take next step to ‘force through’ Man City transfer
Tottenham striker Harry Kane is reportedly ready to hand in an official transfer request to force through his move to Manchester City. Kane still wants to join City before the end of the summer transfer window. The England captain trained with his Spurs team-mates for the first time since returning from his post-Euro 2020 break on Tuesday.
Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo has publicly stated his desire to keep Kane.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is thought to want at least £150million for the player.
That would smash the record spent by a Premier League club on a single player, a record City only set earlier this month with the £100m acquisition of Jack Grealish.
Speaking on Reach PLC’s Transfer Window podcast, Ian McGarry says Kane is willing to take the next step in pushing through a move to the Etihad.
There is now less than two weeks for City to sign Kane and Spurs to bring in a replacement.
McGarry said: “It is our information at the Transfer Window podcast that Harry Kane will, if need be, submit a formal transfer request to Tottenham Hotspur in order to force through his move to Manchester City.
“With 14 days left of the window being open, he is determined still to make that move.
“However, Daniel Levy is also determined to extract maximum value from the sale of the player in order to furnish his team with the best possible chance obviously of replacing him and also competing during this season.”
Spurs beat City 1-0 on the opening day of the season on Sunday.
Manchester United currently sit top of the Premier League following their 5-1 demolition of Leeds.
But former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood says the Red Devils should hijack City’s move for Kane to give themselves a chance of winning their first title since 2013.
“It is a marker, it is a flag in the sand to say ‘we’re here’,” Sherwood told Premier League Productions.
“I still think they need a centre-forward, I really do. Jadon Sancho, we haven’t seen him, he came off the bench. They’ve got a lot of good players in a lot of areas.
“But I think [Edinson] Cavani is their best No 9 and a player who is ageing like that, they’re desperate for Harry Kane. They’re desperate for him.
“If they have Harry Kane, for me they are up there with Man City and Chelsea to win the Premier League.
“I think without a No 9 they can’t win the league.”
