Van de Beek claims Bergwijn tried to get him to join Tottenham before Man United move
Manchester United completed their first piece of summer transfer business earlier this week.
The signing was, of course, Donny van de Beek, once of Ajax.
The Dutchman had formed a key part of Ajax’s midfield for the past several seasons, in which they secured two league titles and made it to a Champions League semi-final.
All told, van de Beek, who can play in a no.10 role or slightly deeper, notched 41 goals and 34 assists during his time at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
But the 23-year-old is now set to ply his trade at Old Trafford, after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal earlier this week.

Before signing for the Red Devils, though, van de Beek does look to have had some form of interest from another Premier League outfit.
That interest appears to have come from Tottenham, or at least one of their players.
According to van de Beek, before he joined United, Tottenham winger and his international teammate, Steven Bergwijn, text him to see if he would play for Spurs:
“Steven Bergwijn texted me to see whether I would play for Spurs.
“But I chose United.”
“I felt ready for the next step. This was the time to go. That is why I was on the phone with my agent last weekend. In the end, there was an agreement.”
