When Raphael Varane is set for Man United debut as massive £40m signing ‘all but done’
Manchester United are very close to completing the signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.
That is according to our colleagues at the Manchester Evening News, who report that United have agreed personal terms with the centre-back and World Cup winner.
An agreement on the £40m transfer with Madrid is claimed to be close and the French defender had reportedly already made arrangements to travel to Manchester, in anticipation of a move to Old Trafford.
Varane trained with the La Liga club again on Monday (26/07) but United are said to have held ‘positive discussions’ in the latest round of negotiations and the deal is now ‘believed to be all but done.’
United have three pre-season games left before the start of the Premier League campaign and the club will have to get a deal wrapped up quickly, if they want Varane to have a friendly runout for the club.
That is due to the fact that the Frenchman could have to quarantine before he is able to join full training with the Red Devils.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men face Brentford on Wednesday, 28 July before taking on Preston North End at Deepdale on Friday, 31st.
Everton will then provide the final pre-season test for United on August 7th, before they take on Leeds United on August 14th in the Premier League opener.
While stars Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Martial could all make the game against PNE, Varane would be most likely to pull on a United shirt for the first time against the Toffees – or Leeds – should the transfer be completed soon.
