Xhaka & his wife share interesting reactions to recent criticism after Arsenal win
Granit Xhaka has claimed that there was ‘a lot speaking’ following his red card against Burnley, as he helped Arsenal to a 3-1 win over Chelsea on Boxing Day, as quoted by the Metro.
To the perhaps surprise of many Arsenal fans, Xhaka scored a quite brilliant free-kick to put his side 2-0 up yesterday to answer those critics who were on his back following that Burnley incident.
As the goal went in, Xhaka’s wife, Leonita, posted a clip of the goal on her Instagram story, with the caption ‘Xhaka Booooom’.
But what was more interesting was that one of the emojis she opted to use was a hushing emoji, which perhaps echoes the words Xhaka himself stated after the match when he prefers to shut the critics up, as he felt he did against Chelsea.
“There was a lot of speaking after the red card,” said Xhaka. “A lot of people start to speak again and again but I think I will always show my character.
“I was very disappointed about the red card, I knew what I did, it was wrong from my side but I am more than happy I helped the team today and I am back.”
A lot was made of Xhaka’s sending-off against Burnley because it was an incident that could have been avoided, and not long after his dismissal, his team went onto concede and then lose the match.
Plus, it’s not the first time that the combative midfielder has felt the wrath of the Arsenal faithful.
But given that it was Xhaka, even more criticism came his way because many questioned why Nicolas Pepe publicly apologised for his actions against Leeds, but not his teammate.
Either way, until the day Xhaka leaves the Emirates Stadium, it seems as though he will always be a marmite-like figure with his own supporters.
