Sales of computers began to grow for the first time in 6 years
Two analytical companies, IDC and Gartner, in their reports recorded the first growth in PC shipments in the second quarter of 2018. The last time growth was in 2012.
It is important to note that IDC does not include tablets on Windows in its reports, but takes into account the sales of Chromebook laptops. While Gartner analysts, on the contrary, include tablets on Windows, but ignore computers on the Chrome OS. But even with different approaches to calculations, both companies recorded growth in PC shipments – by 2.7% for IDC and 1.4% for Gartner.
It may seem that such growth is too small, but this is an important stage for the market as a whole, which has only gradually declined since 2012. This happened after the rapid growth of the popularity of tablets, but now they are gradually losing popularity.
According to Gartner analysts, PC market growth is caused by increased demand for computers in the business segment, while ordinary consumers still buy them less often. IDC expert noted that traditional desktop computers are losing popularity among ordinary people.
IDC got a top-5 computer manufacturer for worldwide shipments – HP, Lenovo, Dell, Apple and Acer. The Gartner data differs from the first two places, Lenovo is in the lead, and the rest of the list looks exactly the same.
